Speaker: Rob Nickerson, ORIGO Education Learning Services Educator
Audience: Grades 3-5
Room: 206 in Convention Center
Description: Problem solving is a messy process, and students can learn to embrace it. Regardless of the learning and teaching environment, students should receive rich mathematical tasks and structures to support the discourse. Let’s explore the structures that allow students to engage in discourse and reasoning.

Session #557
Decoding Mathematics: Connecting Math and Language for Powerful Problem Solving

Speaker: Dr. Sara Delano Moore, ORIGO Education Vice President of Content and Research
Audience:  Grades K – 5
Room: 150A
Description: The word “mistake often pushes teachers automatically into deficit thinking. Borrowing the idea of miscues from the literacy world allows teachers to change lenses, taking an inquiry-and-asset–based view of assessment. Considering multiple systems for mathematical thinking, teachers can create opportunities to advance learning through strengths.
